WHAT FREEDOM MEANS TO THE ENTREPRENEUR

June 29th, 2020

As we prepare to celebrate our nation's independence, we also appreciate and celebrate the independence of the entrepreneur. Just as our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, small business owners have exercised their freedom by creating their own businesses.

Entrepreneurs are independent visionaries. Owning a business gives them the ultimate set of freedoms. Here's how that freedom translates to the entrepreneur:

BUSINESS AUTONOMY
Entrepreneurs have the freedom to create the business they want, decide the culture of their business, and recruit the people they want to work with. It must be a viable business and one that others will want to work for, but the freedom is there to build something from nothing. They also have freedom of big politics, to choose the issues they support and to decide how they donate politically. They are their own bosses.

FLEXIBILITY
While they have the stress and pressure of making their business a success, entrepreneurs can work where they want, when they want and how they want. They have flexibility regarding their time, who they spend it with, and how much of it is spent on the business.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITY
Small business owners, the "mom and pop" stores, are the backbone of any community. Entrepreneurs have the chance to give money back to their community and help ensure a good standard of living for all. In this current environment in particular, community members and businesses owners have an opportunity to support and rally around social causes and a renewed sense of togetherness.

THE AMERICAN DREAM
Our founding fathers were a determined, spirited bunch who weren't afraid to challenge the norm and find a new way of doing things. Entrepreneurs are the same. They start businesses because they want to control their own destiny and exercise their right to the "American Dream."

The formation of America is the ultimate entrepreneurial act. People left their country, family, friends and jobs to come to America for the chance at freedom. They started a whole new country - a country of inclusions- and that is extraordinarily entrepreneurial. In our country, there is no shortage of opportunity, business experience and time.

How will you be celebrating your entrepreneurial freedom this 4th of July? Share with us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn!
