The Happiness Factor & Why It Matters To Every Entrepreneur

We don’t need to tell you that the life of an entrepreneur is nothing short of a busy one. With a busy schedule, the idea of self-care often gets pushed to the backburner. But in the grand scheme of it all, would you really want your personal happiness to be an afterthought?

Happiness Factor is the conscious effort to strive for satisfaction in every action. Whether it comes from the happiness of owning and operating a business you love, or seeing a movie with your significant other.

That being said, it can be easy to lose sight of not only identifying your happiness factor but then evaluating your happiness factor as an entrepreneur. Though this task may seem elementary, measuring your happiness is just as fundamental as measuring your financials.

Start by asking yourself, “Is this current action/activity/lifestyle making me happy?” If you answered an undeniable yes, perfect! Continue this practice of asking yourself if every task makes you happy throughout the day. If you answered no, fret not, keep reading and make a change in your daily routine.

At Gerber we operate as an ally to entrepreneurs. This means we focus on incorporating your happiness factor into every business growth plan. Happiness commonly gets lost in the chaos of a day to day routine. This is a friendly reminder to break that bad habit.

Don’t let your busy schedule hinder you from making time for your happiness. Freeing time to do the things that truly make you happy should be as high priority as daily business operations. Prioritize your time to include simple things throughout your day to make you smile or that reminds you why you started in the first place.

TRY THIS: Set an alarm to remind yourself to have a thought of gratitude each day, or twice a day! Even a thirty second reminder to put you back in a positive, grateful state will transcend to your next conversation with an employee and hopefully throughout your entire organization.

TRY THIS: Does hitting the golf course send you to a blissful state? Block time on your calendar to accommodate a round or two. Kill two birds with one stone by holding a meeting at the golf course. – Integrate what makes you happy in your work schedule.

“The few, bold entrepreneurs who learn to integrate their work lives with their personal lives realize a level of success and happiness that the others can hardly imagine. (They also have a lot more fun along the way.)” – Randall Gerber

Make it a point to identify the things that make you happy and the things that don’t. You don’t have to be in love with all the daily operations of the business, and that’s okay! Craft a plan to begin delegating the tasks that threaten your happiness. Hire an administrative assistant to help you prioritize your schedule and take those items that are putting you down off of your plate. Take a look at our C-Suite series for more on how your team can help you live your best life as an entrepreneur.

Hold yourself accountable not only for the success of your business, but for your happiness! We challenge you to add something that makes you happy to your calendar. And DO IT!
